Terms of Use

Last updated 24 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Sergey Hovakimyan, the individual developer who makes Buddy (“I”, “me”). “Ashoon” is a brand name, not a company. The terms cover Buddy for Mac, the Buddy iPhone app (listed on the App Store as “Buddy by Ashoon”) and this website, buddy.ashoon.dev, together called “Buddy”. Please read them together with the Privacy Policy.

1. Agreeing to these terms

By downloading, installing or using Buddy, or by using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Buddy. If you use Buddy for an employer or another organization, you confirm that you may accept these terms for it, and “you” includes that organization.

2. Who can use Buddy

Buddy is a tool for software developers who use Claude Code. It is not meant for children. You may use Buddy only if you are at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher. To use Buddy you also need your own access to Claude Code under Anthropic’s terms and, for the iPhone app, an Apple Account with iCloud on your Mac and iPhone.

3. What Buddy does, and what it does not do

Buddy is a remote control for decisions you make. It shows you what your Claude Code sessions are doing, shows you Claude Code’s permission requests and questions, and passes your answer back to Claude Code. From the iPhone, it can also pass a message you write to a Claude Code session, which Buddy for Mac types into that session’s terminal or hands over through Claude Code’s hooks.

4. Your responsibility

You are responsible for every request you allow, every answer you give and every message you send through Buddy, and for what Claude Code and your computer then do, including changes to your code, files, data, accounts and systems. Keep backups and use version control. Keep your Apple Account, Mac and iPhone secure: anyone who can unlock your iPhone may be able to answer requests through Buddy. You are also responsible for following Anthropic’s terms for Claude Code, and the rules of your employer or client when you work on their systems.

5. Your licence to use Buddy

Buddy is free of charge. There are no accounts, payments or ads.

As long as you follow these terms, I give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Buddy as I distribute it: Buddy for Mac from the official GitHub Releases page linked on this website, and the iPhone app from the App Store. You may use Buddy for personal work and for commercial work, such as your job.

Buddy’s code, design, name, icons and the Block character are mine, and all rights are reserved. The source code is public on GitHub so that you can read and check it. Being able to see it does not give you a licence to copy, modify, distribute, sublicense or sell it, or to build other products from it, except where the law allows this anyway or as GitHub’s own terms allow other GitHub users to view and fork public repositories on GitHub. You may not:

For the iPhone app, section 13 also applies.

6. Other companies’ services

Buddy works with services that other companies provide under their own terms, and I do not control them:

Your use of those services is between you and them. Buddy depends on them: if Claude Code changes how its hooks work, or iCloud or push notifications are slow or unavailable, parts of Buddy may stop working.

7. Trademarks and independence

Buddy is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Anthropic or Apple. Claude and Claude Code are trademarks of Anthropic. Apple, iPhone, Mac, macOS, iOS, iCloud, Face ID and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. Other names belong to their owners.

8. Feedback

If you send me ideas, suggestions or bug reports, I may use them to improve Buddy without owing you anything. Please do not send confidential information. Issues you open on GitHub are public.

9. Changes to Buddy

I may change, update, pause or stop Buddy, or any part of it, at any time. I am not obliged to provide support, fixes or updates, though I try to help when I can.

10. No warranty

Buddy is provided “as is” and “as available”, free of charge. To the fullest extent the law allows, I make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. In particular, I do not promise that Buddy will be free of errors, that every request or notification will reach you or reach you in time, that a message will be typed into the right place, or that your Mac will stay awake.

11. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

These limits apply whatever the legal theory and even if I was told the damage was possible. They do not limit liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where that rule applies.

12. If someone makes a claim because of your use

If you use Buddy in breach of these terms or the law, and someone else makes a claim against me because of it, you agree to cover my reasonable costs of that claim, including reasonable legal fees, to the extent the law allows. This does not apply to claims caused by my own fault.

13. The iPhone app and Apple

The iPhone app is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add to it. If they conflict on the iPhone app, the Standard EULA wins. In addition:

Buddy for Mac is not distributed through the Mac App Store.

14. Ending these terms

You can stop using Buddy at any time; the installation guide explains how to remove it. If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, your licence ends and you must stop using Buddy and delete it. Sections 4 and 7 to 17 still apply after that.

15. Changes to these terms

I may update these terms. The new version will be posted on this page with a new date. If a change is significant, I will say so on this page or in the app’s release notes. If you keep using Buddy after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you do not agree with them, stop using Buddy.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute about Buddy or these terms will be decided by the state or federal courts located in California, and you and I agree to their jurisdiction. Please contact me first, so we can try to sort it out informally.

If you are a consumer living outside the United States, for example in the EU or the UK, nothing here takes away the protection of mandatory laws of the country where you live or your right to bring a claim in your local courts.
